Chester Zoo Wedding

Kate & Jon

It was last year in early September that I came back to Kate’s flat after a wedding in London. “So, how was it? What was the couple like? And the wedding?” Ever since Jon and Kate met each other they’d invited me to stay at Kate’s flat in London if I was in town for work. Over the months Kate had become a friend and her interest in my work wasn’t so much a surprise as it was, well, sudden. Just a few weeks later all of us went out for dinner and Jonny was able to solve the mystery: They were getting married!

Kate and Jon love animals. So where should they get married? At the zoo. And why not? Luckily Chester Zoo does wedding like no other zoo and with Kate’s family living in Chester it was pretty much perfect. Add the most fabulous animal themed stationary suite from Tom Gautier; a cake tower topped by a tiger, a monkey and a penguin and roaring lions right next to the drinks reception and the day could not have been any better. Or could it? How about a private tour of the zoo after closing time, including a visit to the baby elephants (yes, plural!). Probably the most fun you could ever have in a zoo. Or at a wedding.

Thank you Kate and Jonny for letting me share this incredible day with you – both as a photographer and as a friend. As Marco pointed out correctly we will not be able to go to the zoo ever again unless we’re dressed to the nines and with no other guests around! If there isn’t a proverb about wild animals bringing you luck on your wedding day then there should be one. Not that you need it – I mean look how lucky you are already to have each other.

A thank you also goes to Nicola Thompson for helping me out on the day so I could look after my guest duties as well.
